At 42, I was drinking a cup of coffee that tasted like regret—sludgy, anonymous, probably harvested by a machine. Is this adulthood? I wondered.
Turns out, it was just the start of a caffeine-fueled awakening.
That was the beginning of my ethical sourcing journey. Not because I wanted to be a hero—please, I can barely remember to compost—but because I met real farmers in Nicaragua—people who treat coffee like art and care for their land and community. That changed everything.
So we built Santa Martha Cafe, because we believe coffee shouldn’t just wake you up—it should make you feel awake. And if you’re drinking something that makes the world worse while trying to be a better person, well… that’s just bad math.
So yes—our coffee is ethically sourced.
Yes, it’s air-roasted to bring out all the good flavors without torching the bean.
And yes, you’ll taste the difference. Especially now that you know it wasn’t made by robots or billionaires.
I’m 55 now. Still forget to compost. But at least my coffee has a soul.
